Hello all,

There will be another MULE 2 public beta test session at:

    Sunday 29th January 2012 16.00 UTC
    Your local time: http://permatime.com/UTC/2012-01-29/16:00

I will post details of the changes later but the main differences are about player-specific abilities & bonuses, and new graphics.

The new version is NOT yet online but will be sometime today or tomorrow - I will post here once it's running. You are welcome to try it out before or after the test session as well.



Start the game by going to this address:

    http://www.planetmule.com/mule2

The game requires Java to be installed. Click here to make sure it is:
http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

You must allow the security request that pops up when you enter the page. Mac users should probably click the "Web Start" link instead of playing in the browser.

Use your Planet Mule username/password to login.
There's a chat box you can login to and ask for help during the test session if you run into any problem.


We would love all comments, feedback and bug reports. This is my first test session after becoming the new main MULE2 programmer so I look forward to it! Remember we also have separate forum areas for MULE2: Beta Test Discussion and Mule 2 Ideas; I will monitor these for new posts too.

A quick update - the 0.28 beta is live online now. We anticipate some minor changes before the test on Sunday, but nothing major.

So please feel free to play tonight and over the weekend...

As promised, here are the list of main changes since the last beta:

Species Abilities:
  • New race Elowan replaces Packer. Elowans don't need food, they always have full play-time even if short on food the last turn, and they don't suffer spoilage on food.
  • Bonzoid get +1 production bonus on all mountain plots
  • Spheroid get +1 production on all crystite factories
  • As well as a head-start at land-grab phase, Gollumer also gets a 10% discount at land auctions. This means they can actually bid slightly more money than they have, and then receive the discount.
  • Flapper is immune to all bad events, personal and global, as well as still getting pubX2 bonus
  • Humanoid can collude in all 4 resource auctions now


- Map size is now 11x5 instead of previous 9x7 (and 9x5 in MULE)
- A bunch of new event graphics
- Bug-fix for order of species selection
- Mountains move in planet-quake now (50% chance IIRC)

Sigh. I know someone has to have a bad local time, but can this be moved one hour later for future betas? That's 8 am Sunday for PST (california) people.

Sorry about that, this session was simply based around when I was free this weekend and I'm in the UK.
I'm quite happy to run a more US-friendly timeslot next time... also I'm available to play if testers are free evenings (UTC) during the week[end]. Maybe make a thread in the MULE2 section or lurk in the MULE lobby looking for players... or something.

11 by 5? Only 4 river plots with 5 people?

Oh: How long is" initializing" supposed to take, and can we turn of the walking mule during that initialization to speed it up?

Ahh ... finally. See if there's anyone else still in the lobby.

In PerĂº that would be 3 hours later than US California.
So that would be 11:00 in the morning, or in the night?

I like the new attributes, especially Elowan.

The border (planet land which is not available for plot) is confusing visually though. I'd like it to go personally.
