Planet Mule 1 / Matchmaking / Re: Game vs BRAD, DandyDan, Rhodan and Piete

Hi guys! Just to let you know that I'm still (barely) alive, the three kids keep me from even dreaming of a 1,5 hour uninterrupted gaming session (but they have proved that there is happiness even without Planetmule . I have played a lot with an Atari emulator, warping the events makes a game of 15 minutes and I can still pause it. Browsing some Atari sites I found that someone had made a "sequel" of Mule based on Dicewars. And now I'm hooked (but this game is normally 5 minutes long: http://www.gamedesign.jp/flash/dice/dice.html) BR piete

Planet Mule 1 / Strategy Guides / Re: Player Events and Global Events (Kroah Decompilation 4.4.3, 4.6)

I have definitely seen the same player events happen multiple times in a single game... and I kinda remember that being true of the original, too.
So I think rule one, "... cannot have occurred before, to anyone." actually needs "... this turn." appended.
Perhaps - just going by the letter of the document at this point - although I'm sure I can ask Kroah what he meant by that statement. If someone can confirm they saw (in the C64 or Atari version) the same player event happen multiple times in a game, and whether a player could encounter the same event twice, please reply. I am playing an Atari emu game, on round 5, only I produced 2 food units, cpus none and the store had none. On round 6, EACH (3) of the cpus got the package (and I had to clean my solar collectors ). I don't remember this happening ever before.

Some words from the original authors: ( http://strategywiki.org/wiki/M.U.L.E./Walkthrough#In_general) " Stay cool, calm, collected, and above all, greedy. Nobody ever said the First Founder was a nice guy!" " One bit of advice: if you just happen to find yourself in a winning position, and in possession of the only surplus Energy in the colony, pause for just a moment to remember all those times when the other players have helped you out; reflect on all those times that they showed pity on you and kept you alive; think about the good of the entire colony... and then, DON'T SELL." " My advice is: play to win." " ...So buy all the product you need, and, for good measure, buy up any that he needed, too." And remember, this is only a game. Still best enjoyed against live opponents.

Anyway, I managed to read dynadan's comment on wiping the hard drive, and that hit the spot, made me laugh a lot! I also wrote that the rare opportunity to be able to play last week (only to get my ass kicked badly) just proved that you can leave Mule but Mule never leaves you! After the defeats I just kept thinking about alternative strategies, how I could have won the games. I used to think Tetris was the greatest game of all time, but if I have half an hour why do I play an accelerated emulated game of Mule instead of Tetris...? Hope to play again SOON! BR, piete

Damn rodz, we only played a couple of times! Never say never again. For the record, I haven't retired, even if it means that I play next time only after a couple of years. I still hang around at the forum, although mostly reading. As a Finn, I don't speak if I don't have anything to speak about

Hi Chris and welcome to Planet Mule! Just a curious question: could you play 3 or 4 player game on 65XE? If yes, how? I thought 65XE had only 2 joystick ports and that there is no keyboard playing option in Atari Mule but I hope I'm wrong in either of my assumptions.

Hi ZogMrBill and welcome to Planet Mule! I'm now breaking a more than a month's silence at this forum (but not yet the absence in the lobby), since I have a small break from my twin daughters that were born one month and a half ago and together with my 1,75-years old son they keep me busy enough not to even dream of playing a Planet Mule game yet. So if and when I get the chance to finally play, I am bound to choose high-ranked or otherwise familiar players (if they still accept me since my rank has dropped due to my absence) to make sure that the game will be competitive enough. I'm sorry, it is not xenophobia, it is the 1,5 hours that I'm investing and I don't want to risk it by some unknown guy abandoning during round 4-10 and ruining the game. But since you publicly came forward and promised not to quit, I would gladly play with you, too. I get to read here that there is some division happening among the players due to this "xenophobia" or "pickiness" but the thing is that some of us don't want to waste 1 hour or more because of quitting. And trust me, this is learned by the hard way by most of us. One year ago the community was smaller you had to risk and get to know other players to get a 4-player game and only through trial and error you would get to know the people you would want to play with again. And since nowadays (at least a couple of months back) we "Planet Mule veterans" already know enough people we don't have to err anymore. Anyway, hope that you like it here. I would...

Try Video Card Driver updates
Also, even with latest drivers, I still have a problem when making or joining a game, I have to flip back to lobby tab and back to game tab before the graphics will pop up on my screen. Minor glitch I've learned to live with.
+1 on Intel GPU, no problem on ATI legacy GPU (and old driver)

Planet Mule 1 / Planet M.U.L.E. 1 Discussion / Re: Poll: Plot take away/free plot event

Ok, this debate may have gone too personal already... I have one question that is somewhat related to this issue, maybe someone here knows the answer or how to try to get the answer from the original developers (a spiritist means is accepted, too ): Why doesn't the planetquake move mountains in the C64 version? Was it a technically too difficult to implement given the short deadline, or was it a decision made on experimenting the "punishment" being too harsh? If the latter, both sides of the argument gain support here: 1) After further playtesting/experience, a decision to improve the game was made. But, on the other hand: 2) This playtesting didn't deem losing a plot event severe enough to be modified. As I stated already earlier, I don't have a problem playing a slightly modified Mule, I have been doing it for almost a year already. But my dream would be to play the original version (either Atari or C64) or a version as close to the original as possible (including the events, since they have a magically perfect balance) over the internet, but with an easier setup that Kaillera offers us. Planetmule is very close to fulfill my dream, and nevertheless has already provided hours of fun (and frustration) for me.
