Another name needs to be added to the list of Unethical hosts

ZX81

Beware he will force other players to disconnect to stop a win by another.

Oh Rhodan had good reason, he's not the only one who got burnt by you.  When the humans get too tough for you, you kick them and play with the AI.  I'm wondering why you waste the time waiting for other people to join when clearly you're only interested in playing against the AI.  My guess is you want to work your way up on rank, which is meaningless cause most people know how you work, and more are learning daily...

Well, I just have played one game with him as the host, and curiously 2 players lost connection at the same time. Maybe it was not forced by him, but you can't deny that the "ethical" thing would have been aborted the game instead of playing VS 3 AIs, and starting a new game.

However, he usually has bad mood Tongue and dislikes playing with non-veteran players. I'm not sure if that would have something to do with that, but I'll check the rest of his hosted games and investigate just in case. If I find more games with 3 abandoned players, I'll go hostile on you everytime we play. Grin

Seriously, I think the "ethical" behaviour would always be aborting the game when it's down to 1 player and 3 bots and starting/join a new one.

To be Fair....I have played many games with ZX (and his smurfs) and very rarely do I have an issue - I have beaten him many times to with no disconnect

We are talking about "Ethics" in this thread. Ethics and being the supreme champion contradict. Same applies in real world: Backstab your rival or fairplay? Exploiting the hunger's wallet or selling cheap? Win an easy game VS the bots or keep the burden of an abandoned game? It's everyone's decision, but the "ethical way" would be aborting and starting again. (In my opinion.)

The problem is an abandoned game is an abandoned game.  There isn't a difference between a consensual abandoned game, or a "I'm losing, so I'm just gonna bail" game.  I know if someone joins a game with a high amount of abandoned games I'll be wary of them leaving my game before the end.  I myself join a game of MULE to play it through, and unless it's really early on I'd rather play it out.

I would like to be able to (re)join/watch a game in progress, or have a way to end a game by consensus without it going to the abandoned column.  I believe I have 3 abandoned games, 2 I was kicked by a bad host, and 1 was leave on consensus to restart.  I wish you would be allowed to rejoin a game where you lost your connection cause let's face it sometimes it happens.

Ethics and MULE can't really go hand in hand, cause MULE is a very cutthroat game that's why people love it.  As is with most really good games... ;-)

The abandon is very misleading....I host a lot of games and if there are issues early (ie: network time out) I offer the players a choice if they wish to restart...if they do, I close the host game and get an abandon yet fortunately they do not...therefore hosts who are nice enough to restart get a small black mark.

Ultimately, the host has to decide how they want to play it...fair or not.

Hopefully, the unethical ones learn a lesson when no one will play them.

A host should NOT quit unless agreed by all and if there are network connection issues that cause the other players to drop, they should terminate game immediately.

With luck, the new server based game will eliminate the problem of unethical hosts and we the players can deal with the quitters by not playing games with them

Agreed.  You must be playing a slow game too cause it would seem you posted this while playing... lol

I think the host rating generally is not a very good indicator of ethics myself.  We generally find out what kind of person the player is within 1 to 3 games, and make a point not to play against that player anymore.  Most the guys here are pretty good.

ZX81 may be a little lower on my list than most, but he's still a worthy opponent in my book.  I haven't had a major issue with him like I do with Akire1 and smurfs, or Sockmonkey.  I sometimes might choose to play a game out if I loose all the players at once over a DC, depends on a few things, but generally, I'll quit and start over.  If I don't have time to start a new game from that point, I may choose to finish it out just because I'm playing for the joy of playing the game.  Average game takes 1.5 hours, if I can't reserve that much time, I either don't play, or I play a local trainer until it's time to go.  (Usually if that's the case, I'll boot the emulator and play old skool)

NilacTheGrim just closed a game he was hosting because play went against him (I believe he forgot to press space on the land grab he wanted, and this upset him).

Dallas closed a game on me a long time ago. I added him to my banned list but will play against him if he doesnt host.

One more to add to the list is Dallas4lr - he hosted a game today for me, Mikusch and CurseTheCrystitePirates and he lost a plot in round 2.

By round seven I had 11 plots compared to his 7, so he closed the game:

With 50 out of 200 games abandoned, I know he often quits - but to do it when hosting is deplorable in my opinion.

About my experience with Dallas: He left one game (not being host) some time ago, he being the last without chances of winning. Today I´ve played with him as host. I suddenly got the message that my network connection timed out (or something) and was OUT. The game was running very slowly all the time. This is the first time for me that a game comes to a standstill and I am the only one to be OUT. Of course, I got the "abandoned". Well, I don´t know how to interpret these things - I just leave it to you. But I didn´t leave the game on purpose. Greetings...
