Not that the AI was that good in the original, its was broke with smithore.

in the new version 1.24 the AI cpus won't buy food or energy for much money even if they are low and have tons of money.

Agree... in the old version, the AI tended to pay too much for needed food and energy.  While in the new version, it tends to offer too little.

A bigger problem with the new AI is that it goes incredibly overboard in responding to perceived food or energy shortages.  If the AI (or another player) is short just one unit of food/energy, expect it to convert 6 of its plots to produce food/energy next turn.  It overreacts to the most minor of shortages.  And then it doesn't even know what to do with all the excess it produces, often just letting huge amounts of its new food stockpile spoil.
