(I am creating a new topic on this idea because I think it deserves attention.  I posted it in another thread as a response to data2008's idea quoted below.)

We could of course spice this up even more and introduce different creatures in higher rounds (levels), that can be hunted, just like pacman can eat different fruits/items each level.

Like sandworms in the river valley for example. Just think of the possibilities the realtime offers here with all players being active at once.

Sandworms, best idea ever.

- Sandworms would appear at random locations on the map, every 10 seconds or so (15 times per round).
- Sandworms should only appear on plains spaces.
- Sandworms should be feared.
- Getting eaten by the sandworm should be rare and hilarious (at least to the other players) when it happens.

- So if a player is over the sandworm when it appears, what happens?
   1. Player could lose food unit(s).
   2. Player could be swallowed by the sandworm... and then transported to the next random location where the sandworm comes back up 10 seconds later.
   3. If player is swallowed and is carrying a MULE at the time, the MULE runs away because the player has been eaten.
   4. If player loses a MULE in this way, the MULE runs away and can be captured by another player before it runs off screen by running in front of it.  The MULE would remain outfitted and could be sold or placed like a normal MULE.
   5. There could be an ultra-rare occurence where the player manages to slay the sandworm and collects a reward by selling its hide.

Although the likelihood of being eaten by the sandworm would be like being struck by lightning, this could actually cause players to WANT to run through the mountains at the slower movement rate.

Also, if race advantages are added in, such as the Packer being a better farmer, the Bonzoid being a better miner, etc., then one race advantage could be a higher likelihood of slaying the sandworm.  The player with the energy bonus should most likely get that.

PS. Since this is RTS, the MULE capturing idea could also be applied to all events that would cause a MULE to run away like radiation or trying to place a MULE on a plot that is not yours, etc.

Lofty idea data2008, and I love it.

Thoughts anyone?

What, we're turning MULE into a Dune knockoff now? How tasteless. MULE deserves better than that.

Of course sandworms are very dune like, it was just an example.

I really like the ideas of boomstiq, could add some "spice"  Grin to the gameplay ...

So we could use red tentacles instead of worms.

Just keep in mind, it's been 27 years after the first landing on Irata, so the ecosystem could have revived some long thought extinct animals/plants: One for each terrain, like Wampus=mountains, worms=riverbed, tentacles=plains.
