Economics of scale: If two factories of the same kind are adjacent they both produce one more unit.
I'm glad you clarified that. I thought Economy of scale was: for every 3 of a kind, each generates one more.

So 9 crysite gives plus 3 to everyone; adjacency gives another +1; your base production is now 4 plus land bonus instead of zero plus land bonus.

Frankly, the plus 1 factor is minor compared to the 1/3 total bonus. Plus 1 means that the zero plot next to the asteroid gives me as much as a two spot (two plots each with adjacency), otherwise it would be worthless.

While self-sufficiency is a "safe" way to play, you are sacrificing a significant amount in LCT losses.
Tell me. At first I would play either for straight crysite at the end (going for 12 plots, no river, all crysite). That ended when I ran into high-end players who refused to sell energy/food at any price (no more bot guaranteed supply). Energy I can store enough of; food I can't.

I then tried the other side -- guaranteeing energy to the miners, so they could concentrate on getting the maximum production, and I would make money by selling energy very high during the high production rounds. But go figure -- they weren't willing to pay market price for energy, and destroyed their production bonus to become self sufficient.

So at the high end, with other players saying "Scramble you", you have to be self sufficient.
