Any devs around? Since this isn't actively developed, is there any chance of this being open sourced?

There are some little and not-so-little features that I'd love to see added. Like alternative AIs, resizable window, playing with 3 bots, couch coop, save/resume, reconnection after a disconnect, upnp, etc.

I am currently talking to Melanie Bunton at Ozark Softscape in an attempt to procure something like that, will post back if she gives a green light to anything.  Her dad wrote the original M.U.L.E. and she is pretty adamant about being sure any tribute games give credit too and are licensed by Ozark Softscape.  Even this freeware version is officially licensed.  The issue of having only one master server in existence and no access to the server package and the fact that it’s being provided purely as charity by an entity that NEVER involves itself with the game is bothersome.

Justin1984, one of the developers or system engineers over game, wants someone to send the bot-script/software to him.  I forgot his email - he put it in game chat last night asking Landru to send it.

Did you hear anything back from them?
