It is with mild regret that I must announce my early retirement from this wonderful game. Unfortunately, where I live in the deep, wild north of Toronto Canada, I cannot find a combination of computer and internet connection reliable enough to finish games. Often, it is just a mere blip, and one is immediately knocked out. Of course all my other uses of the internet: Netflix, PS3 gaming, pokerstars, youtube, etc are completely unaffected. One wouldn't even notice an issue if it weren't for mule.
Since this generally happens in the latter half of games I have often such a commanding lead that my bot goes on to secure victory but there is no joy in that. I will forsake this game until one of the following occur:
1) Some type of patch that allows people to regain control over their bot, or alternatively better manages data to avoid such hiccups.
2) Atari400 once again rejoins the community. While this would not resolve my issues, one should never pass up the opportunity to engage with such an interesting fellow.
3) If Lenin one day matches my number of games played. This too does not resolve my issue but induces him to play more which will alleviate the impact of my leaving.
4) If the Nordel Fan Club begins to fade into obscurity and requires active leadership to bring it back to the fore of the community.
5) If Ovaltine offers an official endorsement deal to continue playing.

Have a system in place where a player can rejoin a game is vital. We have emailed Peter at Turbilla a million fucking times and he doesn't respond. Brent has the computer skill to work with the source code to make this possible, all they need to do is release it. We have offered to pay some money to support the game and hosting etc, they simply do not respond. It sucks.

Data2008(my hero) will see this post and you will get your answer guys, just relax. They dont have time to come running to our community for every lile thing you guys need, with time things get done. Please be patient and dont lose hope that mule will be just the way you need it to be in time. This game has had a lot of changes over the past 5yrs, for now be happy with what you got. I'm very confident that we will be able to hop back in a game after having connection issues or being kicked. We just have to wait...
it will come... MB

sjleader: I haven't gotten almost any emails at all actually.
We've known for a long time that rejoining, or more resilient connections that won't break in the first place, is a feature that would benefit many players with unstable Internet access.
Modifying the game to handle broken TCP connections wouldn't be that hard actually. Any programmer with a little TCP/IP know-how should be able to do it.
Send a PM to "data2008" if you have some ideas or questions about the game, or wanna help out in some way.

That would be huge! I suspect there were many people who eventually gave up playing due to disconnects. It's a major drawback for a game that lasts over an hour.

I don't know the level of difficulty involved but appreciate any attention this matter may receive. Disconnects are annoying for the player involved but also for the other players who must live with the consequences of an untimely addition of a bot.

It is unfortunate that no development has been done in the last 5 years for this game. It also makes me mildly sad :-( It would be nice to see some changes happening with respect to working properly with new versions of java, tweaks to the interface, cleaning up the TCP/IP logic, etc. It's unfortunate but don't hold your breath that anything will be done anytime soon. this game has most likely seen it's last version

Last we heard Brent and Peter were working together to make some new changes. It looks pretty likely...

There has been at least 5 patches to fine tune the game. You would know this if you were here for the past 5 yrs. Not to mention all the time put in to M.u.l.e 2. If you played this game back in 2010 you would notice this latest version is far superior. The A.I is a lot different, as is the way the land auction works. Also they added another ranking system for all you rank whores who bitched. Fixes made after everyone had their opinion on what needed to be fixed. And they responded everytime! You should all kiss the devs teams feet for what they have done over the past 5 years.
Please recognize the dev team as being a big part of keeping mule alive! Without them you would be playing 3ai on a c64 emulator.... MB

Just doing my regular double fortnightly check in. Hope you are all doing well! Yes, the development team has done great work to get us this far; alas it is not far enough yet. I have great confidence that things will continue to improve. In my absence I appoint the Triumvirate of Deathmule, Lionel Hutz and a rotating member voted upon by a non-partisan committee made up of all top 200 ranked players, to speak for me on these matters.
Imagine where we will be five years and five further patches from now. Planet Mule is certainly going places. As Deathmule says it is far better than playing 3ai on a c64 emulator, which is the only alternative available for some of our mule addled members.
Summer is coming soon. You know what that means. The Nordel Fan Club will be offering new giveaways of posters featuring Nordel's partially clothed bronzed torso. All parties that send in proof of purchase of four dozen canisters of Ovaltine will be eligible to receive this sought after prize.
