I found the site late last night and it took all my willpower not to start a game right then. I'm unsure whether I'm very happy to see the updated look, or a little sad it is not in all its original pixel glory, but I can't wait to download and see if I can join a game in a couple of hours!!

I used to play this as a kid on my C64.

Yes.  Still a wampus and much easier to catch.

The nice thing about this version, if you are a graphics artist, you can get into the data files and change the graphics to look like anything you want.  (Just open data.jar with a zip utility, and you can edit the images or copy them to the external skins folder and go to town without changing the original set.)

The new graphics are awesome though, and the new M.U.L.E. 2 in development takes the graphics to a whole new level.
