Lately ive been playing with people who are quick to give up there game due to receiving bad events, im hearing things like "thats me done" or "im done, cant recover from that!". Alot of the time the player gives up and just plays out the rounds not really trying to recover, or worse case they disconnect from game. Wheres your balls people?? Im sorry, but what ever happened to the phrase "never give up!" ??. A few months back i read a post and a survey asking if the plot loss event rd 2 was fair, heard things like "impossible to recover" and alot of other bs concerning taking early losses. Now ive been as nice as i can be when i hear people say "thats game" (eg.when someone else just bought 3plots back to back), i try telling people "pls calm down, dont dc, you still have a big chance....but they never listen. Now im just an average player(30%win ratio), and i didnt get there by giving up games i thought i had no chance in....this week alone ive won games after paying $976 at first rd auction(972 safety zone), ending most my wins with 9 or 10plots. Today i played 3 hard asses- leah, dandydan, and mary/during this game i did not buy first rd plot, but i lost a plot rd 2. Putting 2 players two plots ahead of me as they bought land first rd. Did i lye down and die??No...I made a comeback- heres the gamehttp://www.planetmule.com/hi-score-game/game?game_id=39011

ps. Im requesting anyone who plays in my games and thinks they have no chance in hell of winning due to bad events or lack of good ones- to not disconnect, sell units at silly prices or  make "i tap out" comments. All that does is shows me what kind of person you are in life, giving up too easy...ill leave it at that-friendly

Good post!

I agree.  Far too many people are giving up too soon, when it's usually the person in last place that makes 1st in many of my games.  If anyone doesnt intend to stick with it througout the whole game, unless life calls, please stay clear of my serves.  It's been happening a great deal.  You cant play a fair game between people if you have an AI bot in the mix.

Furthermore, I would like to add...

In game attitude.  I've been playing against some of the best players P.M.U.L.E. has to offer.  Many of these players play for keeps.  It is the OVERALL object of the game to win.  These players, and I as well, do whatever it takes to keep from falling too far behind, and with as much of an edge as possible.  This is the point of M.U.L.E..  Its a very intricate game that requires all kinds of playstyles in which one person ultimatly gets ahead by whatever means or tools they have at their disposal, without killing the colony in the process.  But... There are victims of war.

If you're in first place, you're threat to anyone wanting to win at M.U.L.E.
If you're in second place, you're threat to anyone wanting to win at M.U.L.E.
If you're in third  place, you're a potentual threat to anyone wanting to win at M.U.L.E.
If you're in last place, you're going to have access to the best plots and auctions in the game.  You are a threat!
If you have more money, you are a threat.
If you have more land, you are a threat.

So... Players, dont be upset if you're not getting the resources you want for the price you want.   If you have 2k and you're in first place with a very big probability of winning, DONT get pissed off when someone doesnt sell you food or energy in the last rounds for 200$.  If they hold the price up at 500$ just over your head and just above what you're willing to spend, sorry... that's M.U.L.E.!  If they sell it for 1k per, thats still legit.  It's high as hell, but hey... if you're willing to spend it, i'll definatly sell it.  If you run up to the line where someone "might" sell, dont get pissy and start cursing someone because it's 50$ more than you want to spend.

If you intend to sell, SELL.  If you dont, get the hell off the line.  If you're doing it to block another player from gaining potentual... Game On!   I dont fully agree with running up prices sky high without the purpose to buy, but thats also part of the game.

Face it... M.U.L.E. is ultimatly a game of conquest, no matter how you look at it.  Everyone WILL loose at one time or another.  If you're having a bad day... Dont bring it in my server.  If you do, I will kick you.  If you start cursing someone with whatever 4+ letter words you can think of, dont expect me to keep ya around.  That kinda bullshit is just childish.  There is no need to be that way, as majority of us are SUPPOSED to be adults... and from what everyone says, most of us should be in our 40s or damn near.

All in all, dont expect a game to be easy, especially if you're playing with seasoned players.  If you dont know what to expect, sit in a game and watch while the others play.  This will not only give you heads up about how everyone plays, but if you dont like the way a server plays their games, you'll get that before you start a legit game with them.  That will prevent some from getting upset because they feel the game isnt being played "fairly" because we dont all act like chummy buddies in game.  I cant count how many times people would not sell me resouces, even at a high price.... Many times because they fear my lead?  Sometimes to be total dicks... (shrugs)  Doesnt stop me from playing.  I'm a friend of anyone, so long as the respect is mutual.  I'll never screw anyone over, but I do play a hard game.  I want to win sometimes too...

Peace

Agreed!

"One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."

- Alfred Lord Tennyson

It is their attitude of defeat that ultimately brings their defeat, not the hard punches that were dealt to them in the game.

And even when one is truly faced with defeat, face it with dignity.  Play it out the best you can.  I played a dreadful game (Null was there) where I took a great risk over bidding on a 1st round plot, $980, no outfitting (it can be done).  Caught wampus, missed pub,the end of round met with a store fire, which hurt all of us, at round 2 food was at $215 (?? wow ??).  I didn't get my first plot filled, because of food and mule prices (and because Null got my food packet bonus! Wink), until round 10.  Played out each turn until the end, sold a couple plots, tried to fill as many plots as could in the remaining turns, if even to better hone my movement control skills, since there truly was no chance for me.  Even tried to see if i could get a food mule outfitted and onto the plot just to the right store with no food, just to see if it could be done.  Answer - you get 3/4 the way through outfitting.

In general I think the significant difference between players with high win percentages and players with low win percentages is the level of perseverance the player brings to the game.  The low win percentile players are the mid-game quitters that claim defeat due to penalty setbacks or mistakes they made (of course, excluding the odd few players that have played many games but have not afforded the time to play routinely, and thus often fall short competing against the honed skills of a daily player; this group lacking practice, not resolve).

I guess it's the hard punches the game delivers that breaks the will of some individuals.  We had a name for these individuals back in the 80's and 'ole Atari 800 days, "Pussies".  In many of the suggestion threads you'll find these people seeking changes to the tough breaks delivered in game.  What a bunch of RUBBISH!  Life isn't fair, why should gaming be any different.  Take that element away and you ruin the game!  I want to get ticked off for losing a plot in round 2!  Go ahead, hit me with a pest attack the round right before I need to change everything over to stite, when none these pricks will sell me one packet of food!  Go ahead and smack me with a two mule loss quake on round 11, or the round before ore is at 230! “What does not destroy me, makes me stronger.” - Friedrich Nietzsche

Ultimately Mule is a game a challenge.  And thus for those of us that love a challenge.

Again tonight I hear cries of "game over" after a late game plot loss, and a new one "cant win with 9plots". Its absolute bs! Guess how many plot losses ive had guys?....A shitload more than you!! And when I have lost a plot in rd 2 or any other round ,Ive tried my best to make a comeback. Many times I have surprised myself on how ive pulled off wins with a plot loss or just 9plots. How did i pull off these sweet wins? ..I NEVER GAVE UP!!
Here is one example of what could happen: 3players buy a plot rd1(not you)-rd2 you lose a plot(giving everyone 3plots to your 1. Game over right?
bzzz wrong- round3- you get a free plot and buy perhaps 2plots cheap. Now you have equal plots and cash to spare.
any questions?
Heres some chat from the game today-Round 9 of 12
