The current 3,4,5 system to get full length of time is great, but lets say you know you don't need that much time.

Idea, if you have more food than you need for your next round, have a spot between each round to limit how much of it you will eat that round (say you only need half time, when full time is 5 food, you can consume only 3, save the rest, spoilage will still apply of course, but it will help you maybe have that extra you don't produce the following round if you will need more food that round.

How about selling a piece of food or two.

But then you might not be able to buy it later, the idea, if you have just enough for this round, but you know you won't have any next round, you could save just 1 for next round instead of using it this round.  (Avoid having to setup a food plot, could be really handy at the end of the game when you want to switch everything, and have to avoid it because you need to make sure you have food (sp if you didn't get a river plot)

The unpredictable nature of the game is what makes it great. Start getting to organized and making things to predictable and planned out then you cut into the fun and strategy in my humble opinion. I do understand your point and thinking and would agree with it if a NO RANDOM LUCK version of the game would come out. A game with no events good or bad and no auctions would be interesting! Pure skill with no excuses and no luck involved. I think i would do better with such a setup!?
