Another update was released today. The new version focuses on improving the land grant. The following changes have been made:

Land grant is slightly faster.
Land grant has improved networking code to give smoother play.
No matter the ping, players with lower score are guaranteed to get a plot in the land grant before a higher ranked player, provided they held their button pressed.
Fixed so that a tie in the land auction will always blink and sell the plot to the player with the lower score.
If you have any trouble with this version then please make a post in our bugs and support .

I want to thank the developers for the speedy improvements they've made this week. Sure there was the oops with version 1.3.2 freezing but it was fixed quickly.

The new 1.3.3 is fantastic, thankyou to all the hardworking folks at Turborilla. The round 1 Land Auction possibility is a wonderful feature from the old game, thanks for putting it back in. The fixes that remedy the host ping advantage issue are also very much welcome.

Great job, everyone!

I think land auctions in round #1 are retarded! Last place guy gets first shot at property and then next to last and so on even though those players did NOTHING to earn those advantages since the order for round 1 is randomely picked. Last place guy in round one also gets the 1st crack at buying up the Smithore in the store, Purchasing food and energy, guaranteed first plot he wants. It's just the nature of the game i guess but i do feel starting out in last place can help jump start a player.

Right, good point of view, tho it's not an advantage for the last guy to get a land priced $1000 in #1 but true for ore, food, energy and 1st choice of land. Would honor the game to see players starting position linked to players ranking.

It seems like 90% of the changes lately are almost all auction related. Seems like nobody can agree on a system that works for everybody. The auction system probably wouldnt be such a issue around this place if we didnt have SO MANY auctions! The number of auctions in some games has made it such a dominating factor that it almost rules the game. I can play any auction system but sure wish the pure number of auctions could be toned down so its not such a factor in the game. Just my humble opinion.

You feel there are too many auctions?
It should be just as many as in the original.
Can you point us to a game?

Luck is a major factor to win a game of M.U.L.E. Some get better breaks than others. Luck acts as an equalizer. Luck is good.

It should be just as many as in the original.

Kroah's M.U.L.E. Decompilation document states (at least for the Atari version):

"The number of colony land auctions is limited by the number of lands still available and equal to the normal distribution of 1 with an amplitude of 2 for the Tournament level."

This gives the following probabilities:
Plots for sale
0      31.126%
1      37.748%
2      24.303%
3      6.248%
4      0.562%
5      0.013%"

As we see, 5 plots could be up for auction in a round. One of my emulated C64 M.U.L.E. games had a 4 plot plot land auction, so I can confirm the possibility of greater than 3 plot sales.

@C64:
This is how it is currently implemented.

@Mt-Wampus:
Kroah's code states only a 31% chance of no land auction in a round.
So roughly 2 of 3 rounds, there is at least one plot auctioned...

Since we are changing things in direction to get closer to any of the original specs,
we feel first round auctions and the probabilities should be as they are now.

I have also seen 4 plots on the C64 version. It was a rare occurrence.
