This has been haunting my friend and I for a while and we wanted to hear what people had to say about this. Where is the money coming from when we are creating this wealth? I can understand how the crystite can be paid for by the store because they can then sell it. But how can the store afford to buy 175 units of smithore @ 230, only to turn it around as a finished good without charging a dime for their services? Who/what is backing the value of these dollars that appear out of thin air? And to that end, since there are 8 races coming together to collectively exploit this planet, what race or governmental entity sent these colonists?
I love this game, and i'm not pining for change at all. I just wanna hear if people have any clever explanations for this or if there is a real answer to these questions.
Ok, maybe one change, a store clerk that has a visible money supply that can run out and be replenished by crystite (mostly), product sales (by the store), and labor (labour for my english friends) profits from making mules. I know this would change gameplay vastly, but it would certainly put an emphasis on mining crystite which is why i presume the colony is here in the first place, and put limits on how much smith you could sell to the store.
thanks guys, clintone

Perhaps, it's all about gambling...
Each planeteer is like a horse at a race. The very wealthy then gamble upon who will win. So the planet is akin to a race track. The store makes its money (a LOT of money) as the House; and as you know, the House always wins.
There you go... asked and answered.

I like that idea!
Like it's all just some big reality TV show for the Cosmos! Money supply is brought in by the audience betting on the different characters every year. Though, i would like to see a fair bit more product placement to make some more ad revenues.

They get all the money from the same place the world currently gets all its money:
"They print some more and keep hiding the debt by always paying off their old debt with some of the new debt!"

The pirates are running the store.
The Pirate leader, Captain Jack Yostite, in a cunning plan diverted the Colony ship Alien Assortment to Irata. He unthaws 4 aliens at a time from cryogenic sleep and tells them that they were the only colonists to survive a terrible accident with an asteroid. Which they believed since they had crash landed in a S.T.O.R.E. (Survival Town Ore Removal Edifice). The S.T.O.R.E. is an amazing machine, not only can it act as a landing craft, It is equipped with a B.R.A.D (Brainy Randomizer Asset Dispenser) artificial intelligence. The B.R.A.D. dispenses credit, and oversees the construction of M.U.L.E.'s. The B.R.A.D.'s greatest strength is it's ability to motivate the colonists with the latest economic motivation algorythm invented by the renowned economist Dr. Buzzo, that randomly prices the credits it will pay for surplus production from the colonists.
So in answer to your question. The money supply comes from B.R.A.D. But it's really just credits on their data chips. And since there is nothing to buy on Irata other than M.U.L.E.'s, the credits are just a meaningless concept made to motivate people much like a top ten list, or a win percentage statistic.
Captain Jack Yostite shows up several times a year to empty the Crystite collector in the S.T.O.R.E. and to steal the colonists Crystite to keep them from getting too complacent, and to give them a common enemy. He had found that R.O.D. (raunchy opponent doctrine) dictated that if left to their own devices the colonists tended to try to starve each other of food and energy despite the B.R.A.D.'s best efforts to accurately price the market.
As others have mentioned Captain Yostite has indeed mounted 4dvid pick ups around the S.T.O.R.E. and has recently launched a reality television series called Mr. Ed's Mining For Credits. Which shows funny edited clips of the colonists fighting for their lives for credits as things like bugs, robo-elves, and planet quakes assault them. What most believes sets this show apart is that they use A.I. animation to make the M.U.L.E.'s lips move and they have a heavily accented Flapper named S. Monkey provide obscene voice-overs. And yes, the Gambling has been very brisk in the Galactic gambling hub Las Venus. Sponsors have been reluctant to sign on though, because of the questionable way in which the first 2 seasons of the show have ended.
Unfortunately for the colonists, because Captain Yostite is a ruthless pirate, and because he wants to avoid paying the high G.A.G. (galactic Actors Guild) rates for S.C.A.T.'s (Seasoned Colonial Actor/Thespians) at the end of every 12 month season He holds a banquet to Award the First Founder and poisons the Sand Salmon Cakes. The latest catch meme circulating throughout the galactic info-sphere has been "DON'T EAT THE SAND SALMON CAKE!!!"
And now you know the rest of the story.

Basically, the shop is run by the Federation, the same one that sent those 4 aliens and/or apes. It's a futurist game, so I supposse that such an advanced people will use credit cards instead of cash. That would also explain why pirates don't take your money when they invade. About the ore, the Federation wants you to exploit the land, so MULEs are a must have. No MULEs means frozen productivity. They are already making wealth because you are working for them, and all of your colonies are belong to them. No need to sell MULEs for more than its manufacturing cost. No idea about the origin of the Federation, but there's no problem with being from different planets/solar systems/galaxies. It's like an alliance of several countries, but at interplanetary level. * EDITED: Typo.

And the CORRECT answer to this is... They get all the money from the same place the world currently gets all its money:
"They print some more and keep hiding the debt by always paying off their old debt with some of the new debt!" Good job blitzen!! infowars.com DM
