The following occurred with the new land auction. Game log attached
IN two separate land auctions the timer was about to run out but the timer bar magically increased in time when the other players started running up allowing them to catch up and place a bid. We needed a change to land auction but this wasn't it.
Auctions are random and the amount of money players have on hand varies so this change doesn't come into play every game but when it does it has destroyed the game balance. This change is bad not even considering the above bug. Please rethink this and lets come up with a better way to fix it. Even if you dont want to make it like the classic atari version that you stated you wanted this game to be like there must be a better way to change the land auction.

Rho is right and i have to agree with him, and not because i think hes the king of mule. I noticed this glitch also and i think its really gonna piss some people off, eg. im about to buy a plot for 2200 and all other players were below 1000, then out of nowhere 1 player starts racing up to the 2200 mark...as i watch this im thinking he has no chance as theres only very little time left on the clock. Then i see the time rise almost an inch, in the end i had to pay 2700 as i was pushed up by the other player...if not for that li'le bug i could have saved myself some money to pay for a mule. I know it sounds minor but as every1 knows , one li'le slip up could cost you the game...
ps. I ended up losing that game, but i lose alot so i wont blame the auction glitch...i blame the pot.

I don't think it's a bug and I don't think it was any different in the previous land auction.
The glitch in the timer is caused by lag and it will unfortunately always be present as long as there is network latency. You'll have to be prepared for other players pushing up at the last minute to get a land, even if the time is just about to run out.
But then the way the land auction works might be possible to improve. Please continue that discussion in the Feedback and Suggestions board.

The new land auction system is great! Much needed change! Thank you. The time bar shouldnt go back up again though. That i do agree on.

I think that is a new bug. Peter. I never saw it happen in the 1.2.4 version or before. Maybe related to latency, but it is a new phenomenon, and has to be related to a code change that didn't work out right.

I have seen this bug on old way but not new version yet. Although Somebody in a game I played today mentioned that it happened to them that game. So i have no doubt that it is there. I don't see it as being a big glitch since there is already plenty of time for anyone to get to whatever price they are willing to pay. The solution is of course to not stay near the bottom of the screen if you are trying to win auction. Everyone already made sure not to stay on bottom line in old auction unless they wanted to get it "stolen" at last second. The noobs take a few games to learn but they pick it up quick enough. Would be nice if it wasn't there, but if Peter says it is a latency issue i don't know what can be done.

Another bug that I just mentioned in another thread is that even when I passed the host on my screen halfway the auction and stopped there, on his screen I was below him and he got the plot. What lag would explain that if we all were still for several seconds??? And yes, I lost the game.

I know piete pain. Have lost 2 plot the same way in 2 games. Old lag was around $10-$50, but now it can be as much as $300-$500. One was to a host and the i dont know.
question why is it that a player can be stopped at 3000, 2 other also stopped(no money). but the 4th play run its price way down, so you see BUY above the player and keeps going down and turn around and starts up again. why dose the time always run slow, never speeds up? Don't tell me that the time runs slow due to the fact that player 4 is still on the move. when player 4 bid is now around 1000 before player starts back up, and player 1 is at 3000.

I have noticed something similar in a game this evening - during an auction, I ran as high as I could (DUH...) and was passed by 2 other players and of course dropped to bottom of the screen, as we were waiting for time to expire, I pushed down and I was able to slow down the timer as my bid price decreased? As the top bids was well beyond my meager funds, I should have had no effect on the timer...is this a bug?

Actually, as I remember, yes, this is new on this version of the game, but I remember movement on my c64 version slowing the timer down as well. So we've come a little closer to original in my mind, intentional or not, I don't know, but I like it.
