M.U.L.E. Community / General Discussion / Re: Assaying...

I don't know, I think that would deviate from the original too much. Maybe a good idea for PM2? If extra challenges are desired in PM1 - what if it went back to the original version, where you had to go back to the store to get your assay results?

Ok I updated java, but it says my security settings do not allow the program to run. I'm not sure what to change to make it work, or perhaps it is not safe?
Mac 10.7.5, i use Firefox.

No I used the web start function during beta launch, it was fine, but now I get a java error. There was a period of about 2 weeks where I couldn't play MULE (PM1) when java had been updated - I couldn't get it to work even with help so if PM1 works I don't want to change it.
I had heard that the mac version wasn't working - maybe that was refering to requiring the webstart to function... but I wish I could play the game now. I'm mainly interested in playing MULE 1, but when there are not enough players ready to go it would be nice to play around with MULE 2 against bots, because it's still very new to me, where playing a game against 3 bots in PM1 would just be pointless for any experienced player.

Planet Mule 1 / Planet M.U.L.E. 1 Discussion / Re: Training against bots

Hi, Gezzer. I'm glad you've found MULE again! I hope you decide to stick it out. I can explain how the events work (shouldn't be too different from c64 really. c64 was less forgiving in some ways, such as bad events on turn 1, multiple plot loss, etc.) well, there are GLOBAL EVENTS at the end of production, and there are PLAYER EVENTS which can occur during a players turn... - GLOBAL EVENTS: some effect everybody (good or bad), and bad events like pests or radiation only happen to the leader in first position.
- PLAYER EVENTS: Bad events happen to 1st or 2nd only. Good events can happen to 2nd, 3rd, or 4th position. 4th does not get the most good events, however wins in a tie for anything such as auctions and land grants.
The bots are a little different here, but you'll get used to them. That's just for practice, though. Game should be played with 4 humans that's what it's all about!

Both times I tried MULE 2 it actually failed/froze, for a review all I can say is that I think the overall graphics are wonderful, and the new elements are intriguing. Land grab was a mess - I'm guessing that's fixable. I agree the 3d auctions probably not the most functional - But very cool looking. My impression was that it was too buggy to get a feel of what the game is really supposed to be like at this time, and for me the mixture of having to wait for a game on top of the likliehood of game failure was too much. Maybe I'll help test at a scheduled time if someone wants to coordinate when there are 5 players ready to go. I am in the camp of M.U.L.E. being a true classic, perhaps not to be messed with too much. But I'm still intrigued and want to support this effort as much as possible. I will say this (my 2 cents): Even if it's supposed to be rather different from MULE1 I hope there is at least ONE PERSON on the MULE2 team that REALLY understands the nuance of original MULE, someone who has played many many games - not saying it should be same as original but I think this is important. There are plenty of strategy/development games out there but MULE is really special. It's not just nostalgia I SWEAR!!

If you look at the original Mule above, specially the auction, you notice, you didnt even have HUDS in auctions that displayed the other amount of goods a player had, also there was no number above the players sprite so you HAD to look down... just saying that people who play PM1 on one side always critized how PM1 was NOT 100% like the original, but forget that the things they probably critize PM2 for now, WERE part of the original strategy, like that you had to remember how many goods you had during auctions, that you had to look down to see the price you were bidding in the auction, etc. Just saying that at some points, we even got back closer to original Mule 1 than PM1. Yes it's true you could not not see the players goods and store inventory during gameplay of original Atari/C64 version... but remember that in those versions you are just holding UP or DOWN as the players move in slow, tiny meausured increments against a white backround, with no lag. It was a great improvement to add that information to Planet Mule 1 imo. I get the idea of the challenge of keeping that in your head but I do believe the graphics and gameplay are too busy to leave out that information on the screen. I love the "map toggle" though, I wish you could do that in MULE 1 as well.

Ok I understand since recent crash the scores/ranks have missing data and are screwy (not reflective of actual rank)... But can someone answer me this... When I click on my own player name BEEMAN on website... it seems to have the stats for RHOBOT . That is just weird! Why would this be?? mostly just curious, I assume it'll probably get straightened out -beeman Admin note: to keep things tidy I'm locking this topic, please continue to report issues in the announcement thread: http://www.planetmule.com/forum?topic=1966.0

Planet Mule 1 / Bugs 1.3.x / Re: Mule doesn't work after java update (mac lion)

Ok I guess I still can't actually join a tournament. I hope didn't muck something up deleting the files. I think I may have deleted the contents of the "HD/Library....JavaVirtualMachines" folder in addition to "SYSTEM/Library....JavaVirtualMachines" folder. I repeated the original steps after I did that but it didn't replace that folder with any files during reinstall.
Any ideas? I was able to play a training game just fine but could not 'join' tournament

I uninstalled java and just tried to open mule and that did work (prompted me to install 6 from there). Thanks Peter!. If anyone else has same issue, just delete the files and open mule. Going directly to Software Update will only give 7 as a choice I think.
