Chuckie Chuck visits

Dave37: hi chuckie

Chuckie Chuck: Hey Dave

Chuckie Chuck: Only other active player I see playin with skinning this game in forums

Chuckie Chuck: and excellant mule fan art

Dave37: yeah, i posted a response just a minute ago

Dave37: wanna play?

Chuckie Chuck: Well, not gonna play this time out, but think I'll watch

Chuckie Chuck: but am at my friends house and need to not glue myself down for another whole game

Chuckie Chuck: Did you notice the bug with changing skins without moding the jar file?

Dave37: i don't know what you mean

Chuckie Chuck: If I'm not using default no one can play with me

esiex3 visits

esiex3 joined the game in slot 4

Chuckie Chuck: So I've resorted to a custom data.jar file for each skin I create.

Dave37: yeah, thats what i do

Chuckie Chuck: Have to rename jar files before running Mule to change skins

Dave37: yeah, thats what i do

Chuckie Chuck: Putting skins in the skin folder works fine for stand alone, but found a bug doing it that way

Chuckie Chuck: that effects network play

Round 1 of 12

Chuckie Chuck: newbie that appears to have a bugged install

Chuckie Chuck: ??

Round 2 of 12

Round 3 of 12

Dave37: lol

Round 4 of 12

Round 5 of 12

Chuckie Chuck: They managed to trouble shoot two bugs this last week that should be fixed for next release, one is a sound bug, temporarily cureable by turning off the sound in the game, causes FPS issues.

Dave37: hm

Chuckie Chuck: The other is client/server issue during development, the cause of most "User is not responding errors"

Dave37: that would be nice to fix

Chuckie Chuck: Client is not sending enough frames, and the server keeps listening cause it misses a packet and not enough error correction basically.

Chuckie Chuck: The sound issue doesn't effect most of us with better systems (dual core, or high end single core cpu systems)

Dave37: yeah, i never had that problem before

Chuckie Chuck: But it causes a major bog on slower systems, especially in development, where more wav files are used than ogg.

Dave37: are you reading the forums right now?

Chuckie Chuck: I actually noticed it on my own computer last night, I had some issues tie my CPU just enough to see the behavior, and I've played games with two or three people that experience the issue, and can tell when it hits even when I'm not having the problem myself.

Chuckie Chuck: Have been reading the forums a lot this weekend, was really looking for more details about skinning, but they haven't put any focus on it at all yet.

Round 6 of 12

Dave37: yeah, id like to see skinning made easier

Chuckie Chuck: I haven't played with the background tile enough to know, but assuming that it has to be a 64x64 pixel image, but it would be nice to have a full screen bitmap for planet service, doesn't seem like it would effect the other features, like river bed and mountain overlay.

Dave37: yeah, if the background was a single image, that would be nice, but it's a bunch of little tiles, making it hard to produce a skin that looks much different

Round 7 of 12

Chuckie Chuck: I'm going to experiment with it and see if it will care if I change the size of that image or what it would take the change the size of that image in the game.

Dave37: im gonna post an update to the skinning thread later today, I've been working on a total art conversion

Dave37: tiles, characters, animations, everything

Chuckie Chuck: kewl

Dave37: yeah, but time consuming

Chuckie Chuck: My favorite change so far is my new crater.

Chuckie Chuck: destruction, fun

Dave37: yeah i saw it, i like the high res look of your art

Round 8 of 12

Dave37: my conversion will make it look less high res, more cartoonish

Dave37: im basing it on my fanart

Round 9 of 12

Chuckie Chuck: I rescaled a small portion of some actual photos on my last one.

Chuckie Chuck: It's a bit to busy though

Dave37: yeah, the tiles don't mesh well

Chuckie Chuck: and the squares were to obvious

Dave37: but if the background was a single image then you could make it really nice

Dave37: because each "tile" could look a little different

Chuckie Chuck: yup, my thought too

Chuckie Chuck: Don't know who thought that they all needed to be perfect squares, lol

Dave37: yeah, i dunno

Dave37: maybe they wanted to experiment with different world sizes, or maybe the tile image files are important in the game's code

Chuckie Chuck: Well, just tried an experiment with a large bitmap, it took it, but the effect is funny, lol

Dave37: does it resize?

Chuckie Chuck: It made random tilings, each square is a different part of the picture, looks like a puzzle

Dave37: lol

Round 10 of 12

Chuckie Chuck: gonna post that on the profile

Chuckie Chuck: forum I mean

Round 11 of 12

Chuckie Chuck: Appears to uses just the top most part of the picture, an area 640X64, puzzled all over the screen

Chuckie Chuck: source photo is 640X480

Dave37: lol

Round 12 of 12

Chuckie Chuck: Well, cya all
