PaiMule: well, that's how I run it, here's what I'm doing:

keeftea: my i9 i have winbdows and its just a different game in windows

keeftea: i play on a old mac 2011 17 inch

PaiMule: my computer is a mac running Mojave (10.14)

PaiMule: so on an older Mac like that, to run a Virtual Machine you'd need to find an older version of, for example, Parallels Desktop, which is what I use

keeftea: i was set up for a god game

keeftea: looking for 2019 mac i9, bc it sucks on windows

PaiMule: to run Windows in a VM, you also need to buy the Windows product license. if you already have one, you're good

PaiMule: yeah it's terrible in windows

PaiMule: no my Mac's host OS is Mojave

PaiMule: could also do this in any Mac OS version

keeftea: i dont have a licesnse, they give you a trial and u can just ignore albeit i dont use win that often

PaiMule: anyway, in Parallels Desktop, I created a linux virtula machine, I used Kali Linux because it was easy

PaiMule: when initially configuring the Linux VM, I made sure to give it some decent RAM allocation for graphics, but it doesn't need much

PaiMule: the important things were to use a low resolution, like 1000 or so columns by like 800, I dont remember exactly

PaiMule: the resolution gets config'd in the VM not in Parallels. the graphics RAM was a Parallels setting

PaiMule: also in Parallels: turn off keyboard echoing, turn off any kinds of game-mode hardware optimizations

keeftea: i really dont have time to fiddle with computers anymore

PaiMule: also in Parallels, and most important: set the network adapter to use the same MAC address as my Mac's ethernet port, so the port forwarding rules in the router still work right

PaiMule: one all of that was set up right, it's been mostly a breeze to use

PaiMule: PlanetMule.com has that new Linux executable, it's got everything the mule code needs all rolled into one ball, you just download it and run it, no need to do stupid installation scripts or hunt down Java libraries or anything else.

PaiMule: so that was why I chose the Linux to be my VM OS within Parallels

keeftea: i might just nake a bootable linux disk image and run from a seprastate drive

PaiMule: we can usually get a 4-person game on Sunday AM, start time between 0600 and 0630 my time (West Coast)

PaiMule: we have a pretty regular group for Fri-Sun games at that hour

PaiMule: but we're short one guy this weekend so you come in at a good time

PaiMule: what I can't figure out is, how do you never show up in lobby? when you log in, it's like you're a ghost. your name (even right now) doesn't appear anywhere in the lobby, only in the column of players in this game

PaiMule: bootable linux drive on a separate HD would do fine, you'd probably still need to configure some of its hardware settings like the MAC address correctly
