PaiMule: most important thing in each turn is to grab a plot of land

Zalirah: aight

PaiMule: as you watch the little box move across the screen, press your spacebar to take that plot of land under the square

PaiMule: sometimes multiple players want the same plot

PaiMule: but only one will get it

PaiMule: if that happens, get ready to choose another plot

Zalirah: oh okay

PaiMule: always get something if there's land available

PaiMule: that's the most important thing

PaiMule: the basics of how the game works:

PaiMule: (1) you get land to (2) put Mules on because (3) they make stuff that you (4) need (food and energy) or (5) sell for money (ore, crystite, food, energy) so that you can (6) buy more land

PaiMule: got that?

PaiMule: oh one more thing:

Zalirah: sell the land or sell the mule?

PaiMule: when you want to catch the wampus, make sure to put your player's feet on him

PaiMule: you sell the things the mule makes

PaiMule: but you can sell land and sell mules

Zalirah: ooh okay

PaiMule: ideally, you sell what the mules make

PaiMule: lastly:

PaiMule: when your turn is expiring, go to the pub: free money

Zalirah: okay okay

PaiMule: always watch the little clock on the right side of the screen. it's an orange bar that grows shorter and shorter as the time in your turn expires

PaiMule: anyway, this will be a short trainer to get you acquainted

PaiMule: just watch what I do

PaiMule: the more food you have, the longer your turn can be

deceptibot5a: ohhh

PaiMule: you always what to have at least one food

PaiMule: and you always want to have as many energy units as you have plots that make things other than energy

PaiMule: each food or ore or crystite plot needs one energy to produce its stuff

PaiMule: if it doesn't have energy, it makes nothing that turn

PaiMule: which is usually bad

Zalirah: ooh i see

PaiMule: so you can see that the most important things to make are food (for your turn length, so you can do stuff and catch wampus) and energy (so your mules can produce stuff)

PaiMule: okay

PaiMule: but each event (Good or Bad) only happens once each game

PaiMule: when the auctions for comodities happen (things like ore, food, energy, etc) ...

PaiMule: ... there is a short time before the auction begins to decide: "do I buy or do I sell?"

PaiMule: to be a seller (best when you have a surplus), press up arrow to go to top of the screen as a seller

Zalirah: yeah

PaiMule: to be a buyer (necessary when you have too little food or energy), press the down arrow to go to bottom of screen as a buyer

deceptibot5a: to buy/sell I must move, right?

PaiMule: correct

PaiMule: you have to go above the "buy line" at the bottom of the screen to buy stuff

deceptibot5a: okay, that was my mistake xD

PaiMule: and you have to go below the "sell line" at the top of the screen to sell stuff

PaiMule: that's okay

PaiMule: hopefully you will get the Good Luck event of free food and energy

PaiMule: we'll get more practice with auctions as we keep playing

PaiMule: there can be situations where it makes sense to sell a mule to get the money

Zalirah: was it a good idea to buy it for that amount of money?

PaiMule: plots have an intrinsic value of $500

Zalirah: ooh

PaiMule: so any time you can buy land for close to $500 that is a good price

PaiMule: sometimes you can pay less

PaiMule: sometimes it costs much more

Zalirah: i see i see

PaiMule: it's a bit of an advanced part of the game for now, but that's the basic idea for land value

PaiMule: $500

PaiMule: now

PaiMule: have you noticed that it's easier to work with plots close to the store?

Zalirah: yes

PaiMule: plots that are far from the store mean a longer walk to get there

PaiMule: means you need more time (more food before your turn)

Zalirah: true true

PaiMule: so, you will find that most players and all the AI bots prefer plots close to the store

Zalirah: okay okay

PaiMule: also notice that your player moves a bit slower going over mountains or crossing the river

Zalirah: yeah i noticed

PaiMule: so when you can avoid those obstacles, it pays to do so

deceptibot5a: yeah me too

PaiMule: but sometimes it is unavoidable

PaiMule: okay

PaiMule: now I will go to the pub and finish my turn

PaiMule: deceptibot: make sure to buy some food (I will sell you some) at the next food auction

PaiMule: a note about surplus items

PaiMule: when you have surplus food and energy, some of it spoils

PaiMule: for example:

PaiMule: each of you have 6 food units

PaiMule: for this turn, you will only use 3 units

PaiMule: so there will be 3 left over at the end of the turn

PaiMule: 50% of extra food (surplus) spoils

Zalirah: ooh

PaiMule: the way the math works, each of you will lose one food unit to spoilage

PaiMule: surplus energy also spoils

Zalirah: so the ideal thing to do is sell surplus items when i can

PaiMule: but only 25% of surplus energy is lost to spoilage

PaiMule: right

Zalirah: okay

PaiMule: or keep a small surplus that is below the spoil limit

PaiMule: for example:

PaiMule: advanced players will frequently keep 1 extra food (50% of 1 rounds down to 0) and 3 extra energy (25% of 3 rounds down to 0)

Zalirah: hmm i see

PaiMule: sometimes players will buy to obtain that surplus even if they have sufficient units already

PaiMule: but that's for later

Zalirah: haha okay

PaiMule: when you put a mule onto one of your plots that already has a mule on it, the second mule replaces the first

Zalirah: oooh

PaiMule: your player then will be holding the first mule

PaiMule: which you can move to another plot

PaiMule: or you can sell back to the store

PaiMule: crystite sells for $48 to $148

Zalirah: okay okay

PaiMule: the price vaires randomly

Zalirah: whats crystite and smithore for?

PaiMule: ore is used to make mules

PaiMule: and its price varies depending on demand for mules

PaiMule: whereas crystite is pure bling

PaiMule: totally useless

Zalirah: so why would i pay for it?

PaiMule: but a good gamble

PaiMule: you will find what regular tournament games almost always wind up with everyone making crystite at the end of the game
