C-128: Food doesn't work in this game, the value is calculated AFTER production. Food plots almost worthless, esp when a bot is in the game

C-128: Always buy land! Exceptions may be first round and after 7th, but generally always.

C-128: If a player pretends he's not interested, he will be and will steal the plot from you in the last second. New players fall for that always.

robbyB: wait what does food doesn't work mean?

C-128: Food doesn't work as an investment

robbyB: ah. like the price never goes up. I think I've seen the timer go down if you don't have enough food.

C-128: So the old "grab a food plot 1st round" or monopolize food are bad plans

C-128: Yes, you need food for time. True.

C-128: But as an investment, really bad.

robbyB: now that you mention it, I never saw food price go up in the couple games I played

C-128: Old days - food plots were pretty good invesments sometimes. Grabbing food plots and monopolizing them was a popular strategy

C-128: So a lot of new players are too eager for food plots. I mean, they aren't useless but more a function to help you play than win.

C-128: Most new players biggest problem is not buying plots when they can. The winner is generally whoever buys the most plots.

C-128: Odds to win: who has most plots (1), who has best tite (2)

C-128: Well, saving you about 50 games and making our game better today :-)

C-128: Which brings me to the 3rd rule: don't sell food and energy to other players cheap. They'll buy it up and use your efforts to win on tite and smithore.

C-128: Don't, we know what happens when new players are in the game lol

robbyB: do you regulary beat the bots? I say one do five plots of land and an assey in one turn.

C-128: Finally, watch out for smithore spike. We like to manipulate smithore and cause it to spike late in the game by buying it up and releasing mules. Happens most games.

C-128: we beat the bots 99% of the time, yes

robbyB: ok yeah. I'm fodder

robbyB: ;)

C-128: They don't buy land, they don't know how to work crystite and smithore. They almost never win.

C-128: The final trick is the last player to buy a plot will sell plots to lower the price and try to acquire multiple plots cheap and cinch an easy win. So that's why buying 1st plot can be dangerous because if you and I both do it early, we'll be broke and fluffy can end up with a lot of plots.

C-128: So that's basically the insider guide to expert Planet MULE lol. You'll still lose, but at least you can get up to speed faster knowing what is going on.

robbyB: Interesting. Thanks, I don't think I understand that selling a plot at a cheap price to buy more plots thing.

C-128: There are more nuances, but those are the big ones.

C-128: You can auction a plot when everyone else is broke and when it doesn't sell, the price drops in half. A bit of a bug in the game. Then, if real auctions happen, you scoop them up cheap and get multiple plots.

C-128: So being the 2nd person to buy in a game with a bot can be dangerous for everyone, because the 3rd person can runaway with the game.

C-128: If someone like FF gets multiple plots cheap, game over.

robbyB: So I've seen the bots bid on land up to the 1k mark. that might have been late game though

robbyB: only played a couple games and usually late at night so my memory is pretty spotty

C-128: Through rough 7-8, you can pay whatever and it is generally a good idea. Don't be cheap about buying plots.

C-128: 8,9,10...starts getting dicey.

C-128: you tend to want to assay when you are low on cash and will be ranked lower, and not when you have a lot of cash and will be ranked higher and can't select highs

robbyB: thats something I was wondering. does it try to give a plot with mulitple people selecting to the lowest rank?

C-128: Plot selection goes from worst to best. There are a lot of advantages to "losing" until the end of the game.

robbyB: I remember that from Atari, but the bot always seems to get it when I play.

C-128: A fast start can backfire badly.

C-128: First player gets last pecking order on everything and gets bad luck each round to boot.

C-128: If we all want the same plot, last player gets it (for example). Ties go to the worst player in the tie.

robbyB: that makes sense.

C-128: (lowest ranked = worst, as ordered each round)
