johnwelshphd joined the game in slot 2
johnwelshphd: fine to join?
C64 nostalgia: hello
C64 nostalgia: yep
johnwelshphd: cool..nice..no rush, hopefully it fills without no AI, g/l to u
johnwelshphd: /
GabrielPope visits
GabrielPope: Hello
C64 nostalgia: hello
C64 nostalgia: come on in
GabrielPope joined the game in slot 3
johnwelshphd: hello, hop in
GabrielPope: was waiting to see what kind of a ping I was getting
C64 nostalgia: np
GabrielPope: the other day I tried to play on a server with 300+ ping and I got disconnected in round 10, which sucked
johnwelshphd: was it after the fix or no? Since the fix, games have been much better, fix 12/23
GabrielPope: Really? Honestly, I've had much worse problems with lag on this verson compared to 1.0
GabrielPope: I didn't have a chance to play during the initial 1.1 release, so I don't know if that was even worse
johnwelshphd: interesting...the first release was bad, I only played two games since fix they both completed
C64 nostalgia: the guideline is about 200ms from what I hear
C64 nostalgia: no more than about 200ms
GabrielPope: well, the game does seem to do a better job keeping everyone on the same page I think; it doesn't just occasionally stop working like it did on older versions. but the cost of that seems to be a jerkier, less responsive game
johnwelshphd: I don't know what it is about MULE, but have always loved this game, great to see an online verision
C64 nostalgia: i remember trying to play when I was about 7...
C64 nostalgia: My much older brothers took pity on me and let me play
C64 nostalgia: i wasn't very good
johnwelshphd: you win? heh heh...they took advantage =)
C64 nostalgia: i couldn't catch the good plots
johnwelshphd: u will have the same problem here =)
C64 nostalgia: perhaps
C64 nostalgia: you never know sometimes
johnwelshphd: that is what is great about MULE, it's always different
Zanegray visits
Zanegray joined the game in slot 4
GabrielPope: howdy
C64 nostalgia: welcome everyone
johnwelshphd: g/l...
Round 1 of 12
johnwelshphd: zangray, fyi, the river will grow food better
GabrielPope: gah
GabrielPope: auction netcode seems way dodgier in this version, albeit less likely to fail catastrophically
GabrielPope: I was nowhere near the buying line when it bought that last unit of food...
Round 2 of 12
GabrielPope: GOD DAMMIT
johnwelshphd: damn lol
GabrielPope: auctions are freaking impossible
GabrielPope: I had bid $50 more than C64
johnwelshphd: that was lucky
GabrielPope: but because of lag I don't get it
GabrielPope: that's another thing I swear is worse in this version
C64 nostalgia: on my screen i was something like 50 bucks higher than anyone else
GabrielPope: because you're the host and don't have to worry about lag
GabrielPope: which isn't even that bad, it's clocking at 117ms for me
C64 nostalgia: lag sucks
GabrielPope: in 1.0 sometimes it would be ambiguous who would win an auction if you snuck in at the last split second with a $12 high bid or something, but I'd never seen it let the discrepency get nearly that bad
Zanegray left the game
Computer takes over Zanegray
GabrielPope: freaking ridiculous
C64 nostalgia: damn, one gone
johnwelshphd: lol, yeah, oh well
GabrielPope: I need to get my router working again so I can play host and get the advantage in auctions
johnwelshphd: oops
johnwelshphd: pay
johnwelshphd: up
Round 3 of 12
C64 nostalgia: damn
johnwelshphd: you guys going to have to pay top dollar this round for energy, just telling ya
GabrielPope: it's time for everyone's favorite game
GabrielPope: WHO WANTS TO EAT?
johnwelshphd: ha
johnwelshphd: holy cow...lot of bucks for food
Round 4 of 12
johnwelshphd: WTF????
GabrielPope: ?
johnwelshphd: 768 dollars
GabrielPope: OH FFFFFFFF
johnwelshphd: =)
GabrielPope: I swear that always happens to me
C64 nostalgia: that blows
GabrielPope: I'm not even in 1st place!
johnwelshphd: it's the lag =)
GabrielPope: $298, very funny joke sir
johnwelshphd: bug
GabrielPope: that's normal--if the price gets pushed up the store gets pushed out
C64 nostalgia: market goes, when you make people beg
Round 5 of 12
johnwelshphd: ah
C64 nostalgia: early first curse
johnwelshphd: got to start planting soon
Round 6 of 12
GabrielPope: heh, AI is winning!
Round 7 of 12
johnwelshphd: won't be for long
GabrielPope: yeah, the AI is never smart enough to adjust after a food/energy bubble
GabrielPope: look, he's still making more food
johnwelshphd: at least computer not in first
Round 8 of 12
GabrielPope: hooray for stupid AI :)
johnwelshphd: ha ha, say what
johnwelshphd: computer is a supermarket
Round 9 of 12
johnwelshphd: don't buy it
johnwelshphd: that was risky gabriel
johnwelshphd: jackpot!
GabrielPope: problem is, C64 is so heavily invested in smithore that he hurts himself too if he doesn't also contribute to the smithore price
C64 nostalgia: WOW
johnwelshphd: yes, that's true
johnwelshphd: but MULEs are not needed at this point of game
GabrielPope: the store isn't smart enough to know that ;)
johnwelshphd: only two more needed...let's see
johnwelshphd: really?
GabrielPope: nope
johnwelshphd: then it will pay off for you
GabrielPope: running out of mules will trigger a smithore spike at any stage
johnwelshphd: I did not know that
Round 10 of 12
johnwelshphd: I am selling
johnwelshphd: =)
GabrielPope: don't sell more
johnwelshphd: sell c64, take what you can get
GabrielPope: if you kept at 16 the store would've used it up
johnwelshphd: going to 30
johnwelshphd: next round
johnwelshphd: =)
GabrielPope: no, it's purely random what it does at this point
johnwelshphd: you guys diluted yourself
johnwelshphd: ok
C64 nostalgia: what are you doing?
johnwelshphd: nice price
GabrielPope: if we'd had about $1000 more between the two of us, we could've made tens of thousands
GabrielPope: but it's kind of an all-or-nothing deal
johnwelshphd: you diluted the smithore gabriel
GabrielPope: the problem wasn't that I diluted it
C64 nostalgia: all we had to do was buy the mules
GabrielPope: the problem was there wasn't enough money between me and C64 to buy everything out
johnwelshphd: yeah, I agree with c64
GabrielPope: like I said, we were about $1000 short, otherwise we could've pulled it off
C64 nostalgia: sell a little and wait a turn
GabrielPope: except we wouldn't have had enough money between us to buy out 14 mules
GabrielPope: now I really wish the AI wasn't so stupid, or else they would've gotten in on it
C64 nostalgia: selliing a little and waiting to buy all the mules--yes we could have done that
Round 11 of 12
GabrielPope: dude
johnwelshphd: yeah...but I will say I think
GabrielPope: 14 mules = $1000+
johnwelshphd: you guys could have pulled it off though
GabrielPope: we could not have gotten $1000+
C64 nostalgia: you sold all yours; just 1000 would be a small bit
johnwelshphd: I hope pirates don't come this round
johnwelshphd: smithore going to be like 40 bucks this go around
GabrielPope: smithore bottoms out at $50, plus or minus a purely random amount
johnwelshphd: gabriel, you know smithore, I was surprised you sold it all last round
C64 nostalgia: if you buy all the mules on 11, it will spike on 12
GabrielPope: apparently I overestimated your intelligence then
GabrielPope: because I assumed that you'd be smart enough to cement your lead by continuing to aggressively sink smithore
johnwelshphd: me gabriel?
C64 nostalgia: too late....
johnwelshphd: I had to go crystille
johnwelshphd: but only have one smithore plot and I sold it
GabrielPope: you were ahead by a large margin, and there's nothing stopping you from switching several plots back to smithore
GabrielPope: just enough to make it impractical for us to continue to lock out the store
GabrielPope: just like you did with your 8 smithore to begin with
johnwelshphd: you make a good point gabriel
johnwelshphd: did not think about diluting the smithore store
johnwelshphd: even more by switching out mules...you overthought it
GabrielPope: again, I overestimated you :)
johnwelshphd: it was the phd eh? )
GabrielPope: I assumed that was why you were keeping smithore reserves to begin with
GabrielPope: I should've just waited 1 more turn before buying out the store
johnwelshphd: yes...but I did not think about swithing out mules, it was to dilute the store but not by switching mules
GabrielPope: I was hoping that you'd try to get in on it
johnwelshphd: trying for the win going for crystals =)
GabrielPope: nothing stopping you from lining your pockets playing the smithore market
johnwelshphd: yes, but I am going for the win
Round 12 of 12
GabrielPope: doesn't change anything
GabrielPope: people often panic in smithore rushes and try to stake out what profits they can while there's still stock to buy
johnwelshphd: not sure about that...if I switched out mules would lost crystal production
GabrielPope: not talking about producing, just talking about buying
johnwelshphd: I think if you did not sell everything would have won =)
GabrielPope: possibly, but only through your own incompetence ;)
johnwelshphd: lol, thanks, I think
johnwelshphd: yikes, look at that smithore price
GabrielPope: it's just random, though.
johnwelshphd: is it...thought it was supply/demand
GabrielPope: smithore is a bit of both
GabrielPope: there's enough supply to bottom out the price, but smithore has a small random factor (+/- about 15 or 20)
johnwelshphd: I don't know man, my strategy worked..thanks to you though =)
GabrielPope: like I said... I made my play too soon
GabrielPope: if I had waited a turn and the store used up 16 more smithore I could've pulled it off regardless of interference
C64 nostalgia: YES
johnwelshphd: yep, agree
johnwelshphd: that was your mistake =)
Game Over. Your progress has been saved.
C64 nostalgia: for both of us
johnwelshphd: yep.....good game guys
GabrielPope: wow
johnwelshphd: I will let you stay in my mansion
GabrielPope: I'm amazed the colony actually succeeded by a decent margin
johnwelshphd: ;)
