Last one continued after minutes wait but crashed soon after.
Both had message like "Connection to AD timed out" in chat window at the time of froze. Maybe the game cannot recover if there are some temporary problems in network connection or something.
Happened for us too, game froze during the plot selection phase: some players got their land already and then came the plot I wanted, started to hit space, and game just froze there for everyone.
