1  Planet Mule 2 / Bugs / Re: Bugs 0.95.0.0 - Crash - java.lang.NullPointerException on: May 31, 2014, 23:01
Will a Dev respond to this?
I am a (the) developer - as I say desync bugs related to auctions are something we've heard of before. Take a look here if you're curious - http://www.planetmule.com/forum/?board=29.0

And yes 0.95.0.2 simply replaces 0.95.0.1, there was an issue uploading the .01 version but no changes to the code between .01 and .02.

Excellent bug reports by the way.

That desync bug sounds similar to one that has been around a long time although I cannot be certain it is the same one.

Thanks for the report.

I think this is now fixed in newer version 0.95.0.1.

Can any of you post the exact message or even get a screenshot of it?

Does this help: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-allow-java-trusted-sites

If more choices is automatically better, you should be able to enter/leave in 8 places then!

While I appreciate all the gameplay elements 4 exits has, it isn't as simple as 2 exits removes that complexity. As I already said, not being able to leave top/bottom means more thought has to go into choosing left/right - to get to a river plot you have to go left/right but choose the right one, that's new complexity from fewer options. I'm not saying it cancels out, only that it's not as clear-cut as you suggest. Note that we also have species with different speeds, and different speeds on river/mountain, so that adds complexity to your decision too. Plus you are fighting over the Wampus with another player now - things are more hectic.

Side question - would you often exit into the river, which is slow to walk through, to avoid a mountain? Or was the river much faster to walk through in PM1?

I think this is all very subjective, in summary Smiley Some people will love it, some will hate it, you can't please everyone!

More options doesn't automatically equal better. Only being able to exit left/right adds an extra thing to think about actually (for me) - to access river plots you still have to pick which side is best in case of mountains in the way.

I can't see any way of saying one option is better than the other, they're just different.

The JNLP version (there's a link near the bottom of the page you play the game on) lets you do this. You download a little JNLP file and run it by double-clicking, and it basically runs the game in a normal window you can resize/maximise.

I don't know how you'd play on the same computer when both of you might need to take your turn at the same time Smiley

I've had this on Windows, because we don't have an authorized certificate. In the past, Java would just warn you about it and let you continue - recently Java default security has been tightened so it doesn't even give you the choice, because many people just click "continue" without reading.
Typically, Java will also refuse to run if you don't have the newest version - this is also a newish 'feature' I think, to force you to update.

You should be able to modify your Java security settings (I don't know how on Mac but Google should be helpful).

We do have a task raised in our to-do list to get a signed certificate sorted out.

I have been playing it since December 24th, not sure if anyone else is playing, because all I ever see is ONE logged in, that must be me, I always play against computer players which sucks.. Funny thing too, Played 6 games, Won 5 and never abondoned, but RANKINGS say 6 Games, 0 Legally finished, 2 Abonded???  SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS  big Fan of Mule Boot Original.. Grrrrrrr
Your rankings don't matter at all for the beta, so don't worry about that point.

From my perspective assaying already has a cost - time.

Firstly, does PM1 still work OK Wink

See this thread http://www.planetmule.com/forum/?topic=1974.0

I don't know if you'd get a log in this case, Java might be being blocked too early. I can't comment on PM1 but running an outdated version of java is quite dangerous and only a short term fix. You might be able to make your java less strict so it will work with pm2 but that is probably a bad thing to advise.

Sorry I can't offer more help, maybe other Mac users can?

Java on Mac is a bit of a tricky situation I believe.

Would you be able to report the error you get when you try to run M2 WebStart? If it's a popup you could get a screen-capture (http://www.wikihow.com/Take-a-Screenshot-in-Mac-OS-X) and this forum allows you to upload it as an attachment.

If you're getting a log, you could upload or copy-paste it too - most likely it's a combination of your Mac OSX version and Java version which should be contained in the log.

I think you have to use the WebStart version on Mac, you can't play it in the browser. It was working last time I heard anything, there is a bug where you have to re-size the window at the start to make it start drawing stuff.

If you're able to test and report back it would be appreciated - as I say I thought Mac version was working.

Hopefully, someone will come along and berate you for suggesting a live moderator in the lobby. A game that runs 24/7 and often has only a handful of people in the lobby and you expect a full-time unpaid moderator in case someone hurts your feelings?
Or you could do what the majority of games do, and allow a few long-term, respected players to be player-moderators.
