Title: A.I do way to many things in a turn
Post by: Grosnounou on June 29, 2010, 21:42
Can someone explain me why A.I can do so many things in a turn... In the game i play, he had time to refit 4 mule, which 2 where at the corner of the maps, hunt the mountain goat and play at the pub... No way a human will be able to do that..... I dont mind having a A.I better then me, but there a limit to what he should be able to do in a turn. And the worst of this, the A.I still had half is time to do it.

Also, why is it so difficult for us to hunt that goat...

I guess I know the answer. I bet you were using the option to hide the AI's turn when they had to play. The AI seems to take the shortest path for every action. (Example: To outfit a crystite MULE, it will enter from the left side; for food, from the right.) However, the AI calculates their time differently (or that seems to me, I can do some testings if I have time...) when it plays showing its turn. Here is my "theory":

(All below is something I feel that happens, but I haven't done intensive testings about it yet.)

Tell me, have you ever seen the AI running out of time while showing its turn? Now tell me, did that ever happen while it was moving "in shadows"? When its turn is being shown, their are affected by the terrain and time; however, it seems that they just calculate "plain distances" for every place they go to when it's not being displayed. Also seems that they gain more cash from gambling when their turn is not displayed (remember, untested), I guess their remaining time is always considered at its top when turn is not displayed. More free time, more earnings in PUB.

They make too many actions in a single turn even when they are too far from town. I tend to move in map "imitating" the AI movement pattern, and even that way, I can barely outfit and place 3 MULEs in a single turn. Try changing to "show AI turn" in the middle of one of those game with "4 MULEs per turn" and check if it is affected.

Also, human players don't get the wampus because they tend to move around the hill and "press the button" like possessed. Try placing your character's feet "touching" the wampus icon (or where it would be meanwhile) and you'll get it at first attemp. The only part the AI is better, is that they have Telekinetic powers to know which one is the wampus' hill when they have no money and are idle in the middle of the town waiting for him to appear.

The AI plays much better when nobody is watching. ?If nobody sees it, then nobody gets mad. It's the AI way...? More info about the topic here: http://www.planetmule.com/forum?topic=880.msg4568#msg4568 (http://www.planetmule.com/forum?topic=880.msg4568#msg4568)
