Title: Skin and Audio Bugs and Suggestions Post by: Chuckie Chuck on March 31, 2010, 05:05 Skinning:
Skinning looks very promising, but it does have some bugs... 1. Custom skins in the skins folder can't be used on the internet unless other players joining a game have the same skins. 2. This is more a suggestion for skinning technique... For the image "tiles_plain.png" we are currently locked in an image size "64X64" or will randomly scatter if the image is large, but still takes the form of 64x64 pixel tiles, scattered about like a puzzle. Thought is that for this particular image it should be set to tile, but to accept an size and use the full photo intact and act as a background image with all other images in the entire game overlaying on top of it. That way you could have a full screen image rather than tiles, which would be great for a more artistic work. All other art work should still follow the preset image size rules. 3. Make all of the game art part of the skin folder, characters, sprites, etc. so the whole game can be themed to the style of the desired skin. Audio: 1. Currently the sound and music are all controlled by a universal switch, you can't turn off the music without turning off the effects or the other way around. 2. There is currently a bug that is having a very negative effect on slower systems when the sound in the game is enabled, and in my estimation, it is in the wav file side of the audio codecs. I know the game writers are currently trying to remedy this. 3. I think the audio track, both effects and music should be made "skinable" along with the visual art. Maybe you want sounds to be more along the line of your theme. Summary: Great setup so far, and I'm thrilled with a job well done on recreating a legend :) Looking forward to further improvement. |
