(seriously) ;D Now try this: to prevent that from happening again, give your computer a static IP address. Make sure you pick an address that is OUTSIDE the DHCP scope range. In other words, if your router starts DHCP at 192.168.1.1, change it to start at 192.168.1.2 instead, and give your computer the .1 address. That way no other computers on your network will ever accidentally be given the same address as yours, and youll never have to reconfigure the forwarding again. ;) Be careful, if you program a static address within the DHCP scope, then you may end up with a conflict and maybe wont be able to get on the internet.
Title: Re: Version 1.2.3 is here Post by: Chuckie Chuck on March 07, 2010, 06:27 Some routers have a feature for dedicating a specific address to a mac address. I use this feature with the wireless n linksys routers I use at work and on a 2wire at my best friends, the advantage is since I am mobile, I don't have to disable DHCP on my notebook and cause potential problems hooking to public hubs.
Here at home I often reconfig my router so I can play from different computers in the house anyways and still host, it's a 15 second inconvenience to correct my port forward if I switch computers or my IP changes, so no issues for me. |
