Title: Single player mode improvements
Post by: Le Blue Dude on January 21, 2010, 23:25
I'd like to be able to change my race in single player mode, so I can see how it effects the game. I also want to be able to play in single player mode without logging into the official server to confirm my race. Forcing a player to select their race before they have EVER played the game is a little... well it bothers me. it creates an entry wall to new players.

All races are identical at the moment as far as gameplay.

Still, I think selecting the race (including the ability to choose mechtron, if you so desire) and color at the beginning of each new game make it a little closer to the original game.  Maybe make it when you join the game, and before the game officially starts, press C to change color, and R to change race?  The default race doesn't have to change on the web site - that can just be what you join in as default.

(I know, I previously specified R before to Remove the last A.I., but the final details can be worked out  ;))

I'd really like a way to 'pause' a single-player game (unless this is already a feature I am not aware of) I realize it brings up concerns of not being 'true' to the original game, but it's a simple pause button for one player -not a whole new mechanic.

Or are there exploits and concerns pausing could bring to the table?

What concerns?  You could pause the original in all modes.   Online pause might need a 3 or 4 player agreement but it can be done of the programmer wants.
