Any suggestion for a low priced option? Is the logitech 310 good?

For the authentic C64 feel, may I suggest the usb version of the "Competition Pro"?

I was going to suggest the same thing! I should probably visit the forum more often, which is still more than I get to play. Haven't used much the joystick, either, it is a bit loud and the only chances I have to play are when the rest of the family is sleeping (yes, that loud! ;) )
