Title: Interesting email from Mule...
Post by: moodzzz on September 23, 2010, 11:37
Here's a thing:

I have been cheated out of games in my early mule playing by simpla and the like, and i constantly see these felons sitting in the lobby with an open game waiting for their next victim, even though the advantages of doing so have diminished.

Now, i have sockmonkey type anger issues sometimes, and when i see these games I'd go into them, join, unjoin constantly, and throw abuse at the players... simpla and uschi mainly.. sometimes akire too.. which isn't the cleverest thing to do, but hell, it felt good :).. I've stopped this now, as i had an email from some chap from mule due to 'complaints'... which amazed me that, a/ one or more of these cheaters had the audacity to complain, and b/ their complaints would be listened to, but the constant complaints from many users regarding these cheaters have obviously not been.

To me this seems like selective policing.

Below are the aforementioned emails, (i've omitted the email addresses), and if i suddenly disappear in the next few days it'll mean mule have booted me, ouch.

Hello moodzzz,

We've got several complaints about you offending another player in Planet
M.U.L.E. with bad language and repeatedly joining and unjoining that
player's games. Such behaviour is not tolerated under any
circumstances.

If you do not reply to this message and stop that behavior immediately
you will be blocked from Planet MULE.

Regards,

Hi,

I have got very angry with a few members, uschi and simpla the best due to their constant cheating behaviour ... i've never directed anything towards anybody without reason, but your email is noted, and I will cease any bad words or anger.
I imagine the complaint was from Uschi, and i ask if his behaviour of kicking a player in nearly all his games is acceptable also?
Regards
Mike (moodzzz)

We know that's a problem and that's why we have introduced the
"legally finished" games and "hosting score". Players who finish a
game alone will not get it counted as a winning game, and will not be
awarded any badges for it. Also, if human players are kicked or
disconnected, then the host's so called "hosting score" and
"reliability" measure will go down. A low reliability indicates that
players should try to find a different host to play with.

Wow... I didn't think Planet MULE actually blocked people...

In this particular case, the "refrain or be blocked" is even more strange considering the large group of players who were/are calling for the removal of simpla, uschi, and akire's accounts. While I don't know the specifics of moodzzz's language, I can't believe it could have been much worse than some other noted players. Players that to the best of my knowledge have not been emailed a "refrain or be blocked".

I'm not really sure what to think of this --- a whole lot of grey.

Those look like my emails :)

We in the Planet MULE team think that even if some players have bad sportsmanship and win games by exploiting issues in the system, that doesn't make it right to harass them. We'd like this to be a friendly place and more bad behavior is not the right way to counter existing bad behavior. Try to stay above their level and be rational.

We'd want to make the game system in a way so that players don't gain anything from bad sportsmanship. The hosting scores are at least one step closer to that. Improving the system is the only sustainable way of countering these issues.

I find it vary funny that you get the slap on the hand/kick in the boy's. All for offending the 3 Stooges of
Planet M.U.L.E.  When what akire1, Simpla The Best, Uschi should have gotten them a e-mail telling them to stop or get BLOCKED FROM Planet MULE. but no, many people have been kick or lagged out playing one of the 3. If they still play ??? no one knows.
I have played 2 of the 3 Stooges- Akire1(user#-9603-jan-2010) and uschi(user#14622-march-2010) never played Simpla The Best (user#15290-april-2010). and the 4 awarded badges. badges for kicking people, but that fine just don't pick on them.

Many, Many player have complained but nothing was realy done about them, the 3 stooges had fun. a few weeks ago Planet MULE set up the legally finished/hosting scores to some how stop, so player would see that the host had a low reliability.

Just think that if you are going to start blocking player, maybe the 3 Stooges should be the 1st.

I do understand that no one should have to put up with bad language and the other things.
but, the 3 stooges have or had played alot of people, ran played off the system. also when i played them
it was almost like they could control some parts of the game......

Homie The Clown

PS- Homie don't Play that!!!!!!

also all player user# and 1st log-in date are in the player profile

Ushi's in the game now, i've just said to him 'hi uschi, fancy a chat?'
He's ignored me.

This is a form of abuse, ignoring people is very rude.

---- There has to be a by-law somewhere we can get them on  :P

Unbelievable, no point in touching on this subject as its prob. gonna fall on deaf ears. If i or anyone else has any issues with other players i suggest EMAILING the pm team direct, seems to work for the three stooges. Just yesterday i had a well know rude mutha insult my recently deceased mother, which didnt phase me in the least. But did i run to the pm team crying like a stooge? no, so maybe uschi and friends should just deal with the anger they caused in the pm community...they asked for it.(and they STILL ask for it everytime they open a new game)

im out,
ps. "mama dont like tattletales"

WOW - must have REALLY laid into him moodzzzz.

You can come to any of my games anytime - never had any issues with you, you have been no worse than most of us here.

Like Mute, it is the hateful stuff that I object to...we all occasionally "&%^^^&&*" and probably say much worse in our homes, but in general we all keep the jabs and insults mild.

Be interested to see the chat log.....

@DeathMule - feel for ya, who did the insult? same thing happened to me a while back.

Interesting way that Peter puts it..."Those look like me emails".....

ya thats bs man :)

never heard of this Sockmonkey ill have to look him up

i think its in the spirit of mule to give him a hard time and have done so myself

@Piete his existence might be mitigated by some direct action/policing - he isn't just exploiting in-built bugs, he is outright engineering new ones.  As a host he probably has a lot of room but doesn't want to get caught... I would imagine a closer look at the logs would reveal him despite all that, even if as you allude, he can change his name, and his IP anytime he wants, so blocking those two things aren't permanent.

As I say, make us pay to play and you also mitigate the problem again. I think those two things would be a far better use of your time than to ever write an email like that to someone again!  I have given Uschi both barrels and eventually realized it wasn't worth it... I then tried talking to him (no one else was playing... or at least I know it was one of his smurfs and he was actually very intelligent, thoughtful and dedicated to his art.  I applaud him for being able to make me angrier than anyone I have ever met.  I do admire him in a strange way!  But realize he is aware of his mortality on PM, once they work out a better solution he will move on to better hunting grounds.

OMG I laughed at that first chat log..

Death_Mule17: omg, this is getting silly

...

One question though:

A smurf is usually there to help another account.  So Sockmonkey was the smurf herder? What about the other guy, another smurf?

Man Simultaneous development really is required for ver. 2.  But tournaments ALL need voice chat to lick it... it would be pretty hard to fake two or more voices for an entire conversation... I'm sure someone would figure out a way around the simultaneous development problem.

I've played with sockmonkey once. I'll not do it again. He's racial, boorish, and immature. He talks like everyone else playing does so to forward his game and anything done that doesn't benefit him means you are a poor player. I cannot believe that the MULE developers tolerate his abuse against other players.

Here's my run in with him:

I wonder if Admin has actually compiled all the forum complaints about our 1 man quartet? (Akire1 and his smurfs)

I keep finding more threads that point to him as a problem.  (Case in point, I hadn't noticed this one before, and I'm always scanning the forums)

I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately sometimes people show their true nature online, and it isn't pretty. It just makes me sad that this kind of behavior spills over into Planet MULE.

When I have bad games (like my last one) I just find myself wondering, what's the point of acting like this? Do these people want to ruin the community? Are they trying to drive people away so Planet MULE will die off? Or do they actually believe that winning an online game, especially this one, is so important that are willing to hurt others in the process? I just don't get it.

My older brother and uncle are like this in games around the c64, I have grown a thick skin over the years and now I generally just tell them straight out to "suck it".  Its just part of their strategy and if you let them get under your skin they win and it has worked so all the power to them really... remember whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
