Yep. On my PowerBook G4 (running OS X 10.4.11) Planet MULE won't launch with this new update. Java version, from Terminal: java -version java version "1.5.0_13" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-241) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-121, mixed mode, sharing)Error messages, from Console: [JavaAppLauncher Error] CallStaticVoidMethod() threw an exception Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass1(Native Method) at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(ClassLoader.java:620) at java.security.SecureClassLoader.defineClass(SecureClassLoader.java:124) at java.net.URLClassLoader.defineClass(URLClassLoader.java:260) at java.net.URLClassLoader.access$100(URLClassLoader.java:56) at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:195) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:188) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:306) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:268) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:251) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(ClassLoader.java:319) at java.lang.Class.forName0(Native Method) at java.lang.Class.forName(Class.java:242) at apple.launcher.LaunchRunner.loadMainMethod(LaunchRunner.java:55) at apple.launcher.LaunchRunner.run(LaunchRunner.java:84) at apple.launcher.LaunchRunner.callMain(LaunchRunner.java:50) at apple.launcher.JavaApplicationLauncher.launch(JavaApplicationLauncher.java:52)

With either of the following Java versions, MULE 1.2.2 does not bring up the game. It only launches and then quits.
Default Java: java version "1.5.0_22" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_22-b03-333-9M3125) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_22-147, mixed mode, sharing)
Using Java Preferences to only select Java SE 6 (64-bit): java version "1.6.0_17" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04-248-9M3125) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.3-b01-101, mixed mode)
System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a) Kernel Version: Darwin 9.8.0

Is it possible that you've been around longer then me C64? and that I started with 1.2.0 and there is some artifact of an older version of mule that is messing you up?
Have you tried clearing everything out that pertains to planetmule and reinstalling from scratch?

I deleted everything dealing with M.U.L.E. and the java cache to no effect. There seems to be a pretty nefarious problem.

Unless I'm missing some hidden file, the mule application is the only MULE file I know of. I've deleted all my mule applications. Then, I have tried MULE 1.2.2 downloaded straight from Planet M.U.L.E. I have also tried updating mule 1.0.0 to 1.2.2. Neither bring up the game.

Yes this problem has been seriously frustrating me. I hope someone figures out what to do. I wonder how important the new update really is, why don't they just yank 1.2.2 and go back to 1.2.1 since it worked fine?

The Mac version has been fixed so the game will work with older Mac computers again. The new version will soon be released, hold on.

Well I'm glad it's been fixed but it still does work on my old 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac running 10.5.8 with 4 GB 800 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.
I've also did a clean install of mule, as well as tried to launch version 1.2.0 but nope, it didn't work.
It did and does work on my 2.26Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook running 10.6.2 with 2GB of RAM.

The new version is out now. Please download it and check if it works on your Mac OS X machines.
