Title: Indicate how many land plots will be auctioned.
Post by: Keybounce on February 20, 2010, 20:47
Cash has very little value compared to commodities. If I have crysite and the store is offering $60, then the crysite is much more valuable than the cash.

At the end of the turn, cash has value in two locations:
1. Land auctions next turn -- unknown, and may be completely wasted.
2. Manipuating smithore at the end of next turn.
3. Minor amount for purchasing mules.

Here's the issue: During the trade auctions for round N, I don't know if -- or how many -- land plots will be auctioned in N+1. If I know that two plots, for example, will be available, then I'll want to dump even that $60 crysite -- land is significantly more valuable, and with two plots that's probably the most valuable time to have lots of money. (Three plots will be oversupplied, and lower in price. In theory.)

Here's the suggestion: Before the smithore trade auction for N, indicate how many plots are planned to be auctioned on N+1. Obviously, this will depend on availability -- if there aren't that many plots left after the land grab, there aren't that many plots left -- and whether or not an unsold plot will stop additional sells.

This is why it's a game and not a deterministic simulation. If you know what's coming, then you've solved the game. Solved games aren't fun.

Not even the computer knows how many plots it will auction next round. The point is to play the percentages and either prepare for it, or risk not having the cash and hoping no plots are auctioned.

percentage chance would be nice..right now it seems like its completely random whether plots will be up for sale, and adding a little element of certainty will encourage some planning - whether you want to keep saving assets for the same long term strategy or secure that land asap and dump to the market

If Planet MULE behaves like the original:

Plots for sale
0   31.126%
1   37.748%
2   24.303%
3    6.248%
4    0.562%
5    0.013%

One thing that does need to be addressed, though, is that in the original, if a plot doesn't get bought, that ends the auction - you don't go on to the next plot up for bids.

oh i didnt realize there were already percentages. maybe put those up on the guide if its not there already? that helps a lot.
