I just downloaded the game and tried to play locally. I chose "training" in the lobby and clicked start, the window went black with "Loading.." in white text for half a second and then the whole game shut down.

I looked around here and updated my display drivers and Java, but now the game freezes immediately after the login screen. I get the lobby window but the program has stopped responding.

log_init.txt says this after a bunch of info lines:

Code:
SEVERE [Main.logError]                             java.lang.IllegalStateException: Function is not supported
at org.lwjgl.BufferChecks.checkFunctionAddress(BufferChecks.java:64)
at org.lwjgl.opengl.GL11.glMatrixMode(GL11.java:1961)
at org.newdawn.slick.opengl.renderer.ImmediateModeOGLRenderer.initDisplay(ImmediateModeOGLRenderer.java:46)
at com.turborilla.mule.view.MuleGameContainer.<init>(Unknown Source)
at com.turborilla.mule.Main.main(Unknown Source)

I have a Radeon 4870HD so it should support opengl?

Thanks for the report, I will try to find the cause of this. Doesn't a dialog window appear which tells you about the error? Can you please attach your log_init.txt file, it probably has useful information.

No error window, it just locks up instantly and closing it from the taskbar says "the program is not responding" and ending the task produces nothing either.

log_init.txt attached.

Upon loading the menu it just freezes.  I'm using an ATI Radeon HD 4670 on Windows XP x64 with the latest version (10.1) of the ATI drivers.  I also tried renaming the lib\jre directory so as to use my installed Java version and this time it gave a display driver version in the log, but still failed to run (see second attachment).

Thanks for the report. We'll investigate this further, but since we have lots of things to do, and this bug is hard to track, it may take some time. If you would happen to get the game to start somehow please post a reply.

This bug does not occur on ATI Radeon X1950 Pro, so it may happen only to specific ATI brand cards, not all of them. Possibly some extension that has been removed from / not implemented on the affected cards.

This bug, which happens on some Radeon cards with newer drivers, has been fixed now. It occured in the third party graphics library we're using (LWJGL) and the people developing that library have done corrected it. We aim to include the fix in the next release of mule (1.2.4).

I've had this problem, too, and haven't been able to play since my game was autopatched to version 1.2.3.  Like others here, I have an ATi 4870.

Looking forward to the 1.2.4 release and its included fix for this issue.  Heck, if all this patch did was fix this problem and nothing else, I'd still be celebrating.

Thanks for looking into this and discovering the cause!

I have a "legacy" ATI X1600 mobility on a multiboot HP NC8430, Planetmule works on (old) proprietary drivers on Win2K, XP and Debian Lenny. Just to let you know to not repair what's not broken and accidentally break it Wink
